Older Adults

Older Adult Music Programming

Led by a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC), this one hour group session consists of evidence-based music interventions to address goals related to cognition, motor functioning, socialization, and emotional well-being. Benefits include:

 

  • Increased resident satisfaction

  • Improved memory recall through singing and listening to familiar songs

  • Improved emotional and mood states 

  • Increased orientation of environment through attention to music

  • Decreased isolation through group music making

  • Meaningful social interactions with caregivers and family through making music together

  • Physical exercise through instrument playing and moving to familiar songs

  • Sense of autonomy and control through musical choices and positive, musical experiences

 

Sessions may be scheduled weekly, biweekly, bimonthly, or monthly

Documentation provided per session

Individual sessions:

For residents who would benefit from more individualized attention. Addresses goals related to treatment plan or specific concerns made known to music therapist providing service. Documentation provided per session.
